Tip #12: Toes UP!

So many times we hear, “Keep your heels down!” … this is to, theoretically, help us stay secure in our seat on the back of the horse. Many find it difficult to do, especially when just starting out.  The heels always manage to creep back up and throw off the seat.

A better visualization and comment would be “bring your toes up!”

When one tries to force the heels down, the legs go forward. When one lifts the toes, the leg is more apt to move back a bit. Hopefully to situate right under the hip, shoulder and ear – that perfect balanced seat.

Try it next time your ride. Instead of thinking “heels down” think … “TOES UP!”  Let me know how you do!
