Horses eating their Medicine …

I’m seeing alot of people who, when I ask if they feed raw salads say, “I do feed some fruits and vegetables now and then. They always get some apple and carrot every day.”  …
Ladies and Gents … that’s not good enough to maintain health. It’s like saying, well, I eat such and such every day but then I do have an apple a day, too!

Well, might work *OK* for us carnivores but for herbivores like horses it just doesn’t work! Not all fruits and vegetables are equal. Everyone has its individual properties, some high in Vit C, others high is Carotene or Manganese … etc. etc.  The VARIETY is what helps to feed the body — the variety of different fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds with all their outstanding, particular benefits.

The base diet that I feed is very simple yet very rich in pretty much the whole spectrum of vitamins and minerals.  Vits A, the B’s, C, E, Potassium, Manganese, Magnesium, Calcium, etc. … and the oil, vinegar, herbs add the extras that may be lacking in the base salad.

That way, the critters get a full spectrum of their vits and mins and not JUST the Betacarotene and A from a carrot (how much is really in one carrot?) and pectin from the apple.

Hippocrates said,  “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”.

Pretty simple.

Dr. Marty Goldstein stated, “the mechanism for healing is already built into all individuals. Healing therefore occurs most rapidly when we realign with the natural laws governing that mechanism.”  and “Nature and the being itself are the true healers. The practitioner, in the guise of being the healer, is truly the guide.”

So, with those three statements its pretty clear — food is medicine and in feeding the beast as it is created to eat will keep the beast healthy.

The base diet that I feed is here:   Feeding Horses  To that simple ‘recipe’ can be added the specific herbs and veggies or fruits that YOUR horse needs to either maintain health or to get healthy again.
