Chromium for the IR Horse

One of the most advised additive for the IR horse’s diet is Chromium. Chromium is found in vegetables and fruits. Particularly: spinach, broccoli, garlic, basil leaves, lettuce, fresh chili, green pepper, beet, mushroom, rye, apple, orange and banana. Whole grains also contain high levels of chromium and whole oats are one of the main staples of the equine diet (or used to be). The base diet for the fresh food diet for horses contains apple, yams (sweet potatoes), banana and orange as well as green, leafy vegetables. Spinach is a wonderful addition to the raw diet for horses! And, as is noted, is high in chromium for the IR horse …

One of the WORST things for IR is processed foods – carbohydrates and simple sugars. Both of these are the bulk of bagged horse feeds – ALL bagged horses feeds, except for WHOLE grain, is “processed” …
