12 Senses of Horsemanship

Today I am embarking on a journey — a 12 step journey. The steps may be big, they may be baby steps but they will be steps forward. Even in backwards steps we go forward if we strive to learn from them.

Care to join me?

The following lists 3 groups of  ‘senses’ that we all have: not 5 senses but 12 —

In the next 12 posts we’ll go into each of our senses, one at a time to see how we use them when interacting with our horses and how we CAN use them to strengthen our inner core – our hearts, our minds and our spirits. At the same time we’ll be creating a bond with our horses that will go beyond anything we’ve experienced before and enable him or her to fly without wings.

Are you ready?  Let’s get warmed up for our journey —

So many of us are so busy and ingrained in “living every day” that we seldom touch base with each of our senses — never mind, recognizing them.

Horses, however, are in touch with their senses at all times, every second of the day.

In previous posts I’ve written about being in the ‘right now’ with our horses. That can be a really difficult task for those who are detail oriented and more left-brained thinkers – ego based.  For right brained thinkers one can be engulfed in a particular sense, foregoing all the others and more intuitive-based. Much like a scale:

It is said by the scientific community that horses are primarily right-brained in that they are animals of fright/flight/faint/freeze and react according to their stimuli without cognitive thinking.

It is pronounced by the more intuitive community that horses have a strong sense of ‘self’, can think cognitively and have strong spiritual bases not only in the present but also carrying the generations of sense and communication with them.

I believe the fact is that horses are well balanced in both realms of thinking. Perhaps not in the same way as humans or, maybe better explained as humans don’t/can’t/won’t readily SEE and ACCEPT both realms of thinking of the horse. But experiential and evidential testimonies to BOTH realms of thinking as noted by many horsemen speaks of a deep balance and grounding of the horse.

We humans can learn much from them.

There is a balance in nature; in life. When nature and life become imbalanced then dis-eases occur. As a human race we are dis-eased. We are un-balanced. Horses have a strong and unique way of highlighting man’s imbalances as they are perfect mirrors of our ‘selves’ when we are face to face with them.

Are you in an imbalanced, dis-eased place and seeking balance in your life?

Are you ready and willing to take a deep look within your SELF and change that which needs to be changed?

Are you ready to help your horse be the very best he or she can be?

If so, you can create a bond and partnership between the two of you that will surpass any expectations that you have right now, this moment.

Please join me on this journey. We’ll laugh, we’ll cry, we’ll rejoice and encourage each other. We’ll help strengthen each other and discover new heights and accomplish more with our horses than we’ve ever dreamed.

There are two ways to join in —

1.  Follow along here, on this page, for the basic core principles and work towards your goals with your horse on your own …

or

2.  Join in our 12 week course beginning April 7th for a very special, gift discount from Penzance’s Equine Educational Center’s  normal tuition fees … just $99 per person for the 12 weeks. We’ll meet every week on Thursday evenings at 8 pm Eastern time – online, live in chat. We’ll post videos of our journey, discuss our findings, compare notes, and work through specific exercises each week with our horses to carry us along in unity and strength.

We’ll learn positive reinforcement teachings and partnership training that will carry us through any adventure with any horse in the safest, most effective ways in mutual 100% trust and respect and total unity.

We’ll discover those places deep within our own hearts that need to come to light and shine – for our selves and for our horses!

We’ll detail the 12 Senses of Heart to Heart Horsemanship …  one each week.
